The short version
Tonvert converts media files inside your browser. Your audio and video files are not uploaded to us, not stored on a server, and not accessible to anyone but you.
Because the conversion is local, there is no upload queue and no copy of your file anywhere except your own device. If you close the tab, the file and the conversion result are gone from the page's memory.
What we do not collect
We do not collect your media files. The converter reads them directly from disk into your browser's memory and writes the result back to a download; the bytes never travel over the network.
We do not require an account, an email address or any personal identifier to use any tool on this site.
We do not sell or share personal information, because we do not hold any.
What is collected automatically
Like most websites, our hosting provider records standard technical request data such as IP address, browser user agent, requested URL and timestamp. This is used for security, abuse prevention and aggregate traffic measurement, and it is retained only as long as the provider's standard log retention period.
If analytics is enabled on this site, it is Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymisation. It records page views, referrers, approximate country, device type and interactions with the converter interface such as how many conversions started and how many completed. It does not receive your files, your filenames or the contents of your media.
You can block analytics without losing any functionality — the converters work whether or not analytics loads.
Third-party requests the browser makes
The conversion engine is FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. The first time you start a conversion, your browser downloads that engine, about 32 MB, from a public content delivery network. That request exposes your IP address to the CDN operator in the same way any content request does.
Once the engine is in your browser cache, later conversions do not repeat the download. If you would rather avoid the CDN request entirely, you can disable JavaScript, in which case the conversion tools will not run — there is no server-side fallback by design.
The site does not embed third-party advertising, tracking pixels or social media widgets. If advertising is introduced later, this policy will be updated before that happens.
Local storage on your device
This site stores a small preference in your browser's local storage to remember whether you chose the light or dark theme. It is a display setting only and contains no personal data.
You can clear it at any time through your browser's site data settings.
Children
This site is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and because we do not collect personal information directly at all, there is nothing for a parent to request be deleted.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA and comparable laws you may have rights to access, correct, delete or port personal data, and to object to certain processing. Because we do not collect personal data through the converter, in most cases we simply hold nothing about you to act on. If you believe we do hold something, contact us and we will respond within the period required by the applicable law.
For data held by the analytics provider or our hosting provider, we can pass a request to them, or you can exercise your rights with them directly.
Changes to this policy
If the way this site handles data changes — for example if accounts, cloud processing or advertising are ever added — this page will be updated and the "last updated" date will change. Material changes will be described in plain language rather than buried in the text.
